Government Designates June 27 as National Day for Small and Medium Enterprises

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Manet has set June 27 as the annual National Small and Medium Enterprise Day to promote job creation, supply chain and expanded markets for the SME sector in Cambodia.

In a sub-decree dated January 29, the PM ordered the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation to organize the new holiday in collaboration with ministries, regional administrative institutions, public enterprises, private enterprises, community associations, educational institutions and stakeholders.

According to a 2018 report by the Ministry of Industry, small and medium enterprises in Cambodia account for 99.8% of all companies and employ 70% of the total workforce. SMEs make up about 58% of the national GDP.
